Noise Monitoring
The HSE estimates that over 1.3 million workers in the UK
are still exposed to a noise level over 85 dB(A).
The Noise at Work Regulations 1989 (NAW) gives us three
key points concerning noise in the workplace.
First Action Level - 85dB(A)
Second Action Level - 90dB(A)
Peak Action Level - 200 Pascals
Employers have duties at all of these levels, but how do
you know whether these levels apply to you? If you have to shout
at a person less than 2 meters away then you are likely to be exposing
staff to 85dB(A) or above. Exposing colleagues to noise
levels in excess of 90dB(A) throughout their working day
can over time lead to Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL).
In order to prevent NIHL the Noise at Work Regulations places
a duty on employers whom are likely to be exposing employees to
noise above the first action level to carry out a formal
noise assessment via a competent person.
A noise survey from ASP LTD will be carried out competently
to identify those at risk, review the suitability of any hearing
protection already supplied and used and offer other control
ideas to reduce exposure.
